莎士比亚笔下的爱情故事以罗密欧与朱丽叶的双双离世为结局，但泰勒用美妙的幻想改写结局，《Love story》歌词的最后以罗密欧的视角说出"Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone. I love you and that's all I really know. I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress. It's a love story, baby, just say 'Yes'". 罗密欧征得朱丽叶父亲的许可并向朱丽叶求婚。全曲蕴含了青春期美好爱情的向往和永远幸福生活的理想主义。也由此曲虏获了相当多的粉丝。泰勒在接受采访的时候表示，这首歌起源于一位她想要约会的男孩，当她把这位男孩介绍给家人朋友时，他们都说不喜欢他。这使泰勒联想到了罗密欧与朱丽叶的境况，接着在卧室地板上仅仅用了二十多分钟就写出这首歌。

《Love story》是泰勒第二张录音室专辑《Fearless》（2008年11月11日发行）的主打单曲，并成为她首个全球排名第一的热门歌曲。这首歌是泰勒演唱会的主打歌曲，据统计，截止2023年7月，这首歌已被现场演唱超过500次。泰勒本人也表示，只要粉丝想听，这首歌她就会一直唱下去。

2019年与大机器公司Big Machine records的母带所有权争议后，泰勒重新录制她的前录音室专辑，《Fearless (Taylor's Version)》是首张重新录制，而《Love story(Taylor's Version)》最先发布，后登上Billbord热门乡村热门乡村歌曲第一名。
