Since the start of the IATF 16949 certification scheme TÜV Rheinland has always offered you the minimum number of required IATF 16949 audit days. Recently the IATF has developed a new and more defined concept of when and how the minimum IATF 16949 audit days for a regular planned audit for a supplier must be increased based on IATF OEM customer(s) risk. This new concept must not only be applied by TÜV Rheinland but by all IATF 16949 accredited certification bodies for all surveillance, recertification and transfer audits starting from July

Tier 1 suppliers will have some time (hours) added to their next regularly planned audit if they are not meeting their IATF OEM customer(s) specified quality and delivery performance targets. Your CB will use the additional audit time to focus on the corrective action process and prevention of recurrence, including for related processes and products.

The IATF has defined its methods to implement this concept in the IATF Sanctioned Interpretations* (SI) 26, 27 and 28. Particularly SI26 contains information that we would like to share with you because it contains information directly relevant for you.

SI26 – Audit day determination – 5.2When the client does not meet the IATF OEM quality and/or delivery targets specified in the IATF OEM scorecard(s), TÜV Rheinland shall increase the total audit days by the hours listed in the table below. The increased audit time shall be used to review the corrective actions associated with the IATF OEM quality and/or delivery targets not being met and the associated risk to similar processes / products.The only exception is if the client can provide evidence of effective implementation of the corrective actions for the quality and/or delivery performance issues, then no increase is applied. This increased audit time shall be determined after all permitted reductions have been applied, but before the rounding per 5.2 p). The increase shall be applied to the current audit.

As an IATF 16949 certified TÜV Rhineland client, what does this change mean?

All certified organizations with IATF OEMs as their customer are required to provide all IATF OEM scorecards 3 months ahead of planned audits. Based on this concept of additional audit time, if IATF OEM quality and delivery performance targets are not being met the CB will increase the audit time accordingly. If, before the start of the audit, during the minimum 1-hour verification of data and changes review, the CB auditor discovers that during the last three months the IATF OEM quality and delivery performance targets were not being met, additional audit time (see above table) would also be required.
